Dance Arts Collaborative strives to ensure that each child is seen as an individual with
his or her own unique abilities and potential. All students who respect the commitment of
hard work and dedication to their craft will always have the opportunity to learn and grow
through professional training and performances provided in a caring and nurturing environment.
Dance Arts Collaborative announces its first end of the year play, as performed by the Acting classes of the school!
The play will be Merton of the Movies, a hilarious comedy by George S. Kauffman, set in the thrilling days of the
silent film era. The play centers on a starry-eyed young man named Merton from Peoria, Illinois who is dead set on becoming
a "serious movie actor." Comedies. according to Merton, are beneath his capabilities, not to mention lacking
anything to do with art. There is one problem, though. Merton can't act to save his life. In fact, he's awful! But that
doesn't stop his meteoric rise to fame and fortune in Hollywood ... as a comedic actor ...something he is
completely unaware of being.
Along the way of Merton's adventures, we meet very colorful characters both in Peoria and Hollywood! There are desperate
actresses who will stop at nothing to be noticed by power-hungry movie directors, glamorous movie stars in glittering
gowns who can't spell the sord "cat," a sharp-tongued casting director who falls in love with Merton's drive
and innocence, and of course, villains, who try to take Merton's girl and his soul ... and many many more!!!
This all adds up to be a very funny, touching play about the human spirit and the pain of finding out who your true
friends are in this world.
